Hotel on the river bank in Inverness
This is one of those places which proves the adage that small is beautiful. The rooms come in varying grades, if you can, go for one of the more expensive rooms as they have better views and are nicer all around. The new rooms in the annexe on the other side of the car park are lovely. If you don't want to go out there is a great Italian restaurant in the main building which is well worth a visit. The hotel is quite pricey but worth it for a treat.

Self Catering cottage - Eaglais, near Torridon, Ross-shire
Built in 1904, this beautifully converted former church is off the beaten track in wild Wester Ross, overlooking Upper Loch Torridon. Eaglais has a warm, contemporary interior and guests will love to congregate around the pine table in the spacious, modern kitchen. Timber floors, cream decor and pretty blinds and curtains feature throughout. The house is perched on a raised piece of ground overlooking the loch.

Self catering cottage near Achiltibuie, West coast of Scotland
If you are looking for somewhere to destress and get away from it all, this is for you. We stayed here for a week to celebrate my partners birthday in March and fell in love with the place. There is a massive picture window where you can sit with your feet up and look at the Summer Isles and the boats going in and out of the harbour at Old Dornie. The multifuel stove was a delight to curl up in front of and the rest of the house was well equipped and comfortable. Highly recommended!

The Howard - Edinburgh
Imagine a 5-star Georgian retreat in the city centre of Scotland's Capital City. Consistently classified as one of the AA's Top 200 Hotels in Britain and Ireland. During your stay at the Howard hotel, a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, you'll be taken back to the time of traditional Georgian pampering, as you relax in one of our eighteen individually characterised bedrooms.

What a gem of a bed and breakfast with a fabulous restaurant on Royal Deeside.
The Green Inn is tucked away on one side of the square in Ballater a stones throw from Balmoral. Janet & Myself were lucky enough to stay for three nights in March 2003 when the weather co-operated and we were at the top of Lochnagar in tee-shirts and shorts! Trevor and Evelyn are great hosts and will make you very welcome. We were late back from the hills one night and Evelyn was waiting for us with flapjacks and biscuits in case we were hungry (which we definitely were but that's another story!) Chris is a fabulous chef and he produces sensational food, breakfast was no less impressive - being cooked by Evelyn herself. She cooks a mean bowl of porridge. Rooms are warm and comfortable and we have no hesitation in recommending a stay or just a meal at The Green Inn if you are in the area.
